The 2009 MAMA (Mnet Asia Music Awards) have been plagued with bad news from the very beginning and here's some more.
Along with the two trot singers and SM Entertainment boycotting the MAMA's, Pledis Entertainment and their stars After School and Son Dambi have announced that they will not be attending the award show as well.
Pledis Entertainment stated:
"Because of Son Dambi's concert in LA, she will be abroad. After School is currently finishing up preparations for their next album to be released towards the end of November, therefore it will be difficult to attend."
Although Pledis is not boycotting, their stars won't be able to attend and quite frankly, it seems they don't believe the MAMA's are very significant anyway.

NOT Permanently, but just for one performance of Ring Ding Dong on the November 6th episode of Music Bank!
The reason? Because Jonghyun is currently recovering from swine flu and Super Senior Junior Yesung wanted to support his little dongsaengs.
Yesung will sing all of Jonghyun's parts live, which we are highly anticipating. Will Yesung be able to mesh well and keep up with the energetic members of SHINee?
Stay tuned to find out!

We bring you yet more unfortunate news: artistes of SM Entertainment will not be taking part in the 2009 MAMA.
SME announced on November 3rd that their artistes including Super Junior, SNSD, SHINee and f(x) will not be attending MAMA. The reason given was that MAMA will be using a process similar to how MNET's music program M! Countdown selects its winners, and SME does not trust the method nor believe that it is fair.
This latest statement comes as SME does not trust in M! Countdown because of what happened with SNSD's massive hit Gee. While the song topped charts of other television networks for 9 weeks in a row, it failed to reach number one in M! Countdown even once. It only made the top 10, one whole month after the song's release date.
SME thus feel that MNET's method of deciding on their winners cannot be trusted.
Also, there is a MAMA-related popularity poll happening on Mnet's website at the moment. The catch is that you must be registered as a paid member of the website in order to cast a vote. SME feels that fans of SME's artistes should not be spending too much money just to cast votes for their favourite artistes and has hence asked MNET to withdraw SME's artistes from the categories for which they are nominated in MAMA.
We have previously reported that a couple of trot singers were boycotting MAMA. Will MNET be able to pull this event off successfully without participation by some of the biggest names in the industry? Stay tuned to allkpop as MAMA draws near.

After the success of BoA and TVXQ, SM Entertainment are continuing their invasion on Japan by introducing the Japanese to Father SM’s freshest Kpop sensation SHINee.
SHINee is planning on releasing an album in Japan and they’ll be visiting the land of the rising sun for the first time this coming summer. KJ-net (event organizer) announced that SHINee will be holding a fan meeting/mini-concert on August 10th at the Nakano Sun Plaza Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Tickets went on sale last Sunday for 8600 Yen ($90 USD) a seat.
No information has been given yet on when SHINee’s new album will be released in Japan. However, KJ-net stated that fans will have the opportunity to purchase a “special event” CD at SHINee’s fan meeting/mini-concert in August.
Like most teenagers, when I was in my mid-teens I was sporting a woodrow almost all the time and I’m sure SHINee is no different. Kpop entertainment companies are known for keeping their idols on constant lockdown. It must be tough for SHINee since they have cute girls and lovely noonas practically throwing themselves at the Kpop group, and the poor idols aren’t allowed to pillage that booty. Because of this unfortunate situation SHINee probably has an immense amount of sexual tension built up bigger than the average teen. It’ll most likely be just as tough in Japan for SHINee since they won’t be able to take advantage of Japan’s top commodity, hot Japanese ladies.

Film News Korean entertaiment industry rocked by ' Entertainers' X-file'
by Andrew Mack, January 30, 2005 2:48 AM
This past week the S Korean entertainment industry had been rocked by a 113-page report in a Microsoft Power Point file, dubbed the "Entertainers' X-Files,". Created by Dongseo Research for Cheil Communications the file was a research document which would be used to determine the value of potential models and minimize risk factors for advertisers. [Ed note: Dongseo interviewed 10 reporters, who were given vouchers worth 200,000 Won each for their information - Approx $500 CDA]
The report first scores "present position", describing how entertainers became known and what they do as well as their "prospects". Other categories, "Attractions/talents", "self-management" and "rumors" are scored in a separate table.
The "rumors" category has become especially troublesome. There are unconfirmed and potentially defaming rumors. Keywords and phrases like "bisexual," "scandals involving the sons of a certain business tycoon", "love affairs with entertainers", "sponsors have recently changed", and "had a friendly relationship with a certain Cabinet minister" appear in the report.
Sadly, attention has mainly focused on the “rumors” category. Comments and posts on message boards about this file and categories are mostly nasty than supportive. The contents of the file have been expressed in crude fashion. Many ridicule the rumored sexual tendencies of some of the stars in very colorful language. Others claim to be of a higher moral standing and resort to expressing their disgust with the poor personal morals of some of the entertainers. Of course this is something that is so much easier to do with the anonymity of the internet. They’ll never know who you are so go ahead and slander them!
Since Monday, 55 of the 99 celebrities mentioned in the document have filed a class action suit against Cheil Communications and Dongseo Research. Also, 359 people from the show business industry have expressed their intentions to boycott Cheil. "This incident isn’t just about the entertainers, but about the violation of an individual’s privacy," said Hong Jong-goo, a representative of the entertainers’ group. "We’re going to take every action and see this to the end."
Kwon Sang-woo [Volcano High/My Tutor Friend], a Twitch favorite, said in recent interview that because of the break-out of the file he has seriously considering quitting show business altogether. Quite sad news since he is set up to work with Yuen Wo-Ping and is also rumored to be up for a role in John Woo’s The War of the Red Cliff.
A total of 368 entertainers, including such names as TV stars Bae Yong-joon and Kwon Sang-woo, belonging to 45 talent agencies announced later in the week that they will refuse to work with Cheil Communications.
Define Irony: This file is leaked and it will likely ruin some amazing entertainers' careers in Korea. A talentless hack like Paris Hilton becomes even more popular in America after her sex video is released online.
