C.R. Johnson, a professional free skier and halfpipe skiing pioneer, was killed Wednesday afternoon while skiing at Squaw Valley, Calif.
Johnson, 26, was reportedly taking a run down a steep chute on the signature Light Towers when he smashed his head against a rock outcropping.

C.R. Johnson, who had competed in the Winter X games, was skiing with friends on Wednesday when he fell while going down a tight and very rocky area.
Johnson reportedly fell face first and spun around and hit the back of his head on rocks. The free skier was wearing a helmet, according to reports.
The ski patrol made it on the scene within a few minutes, but were unable to revive Johnson.
C.R. Johnson was reportedly 26 years old.
Johnson had posted the following statement his MySpace page: “I feel it’s most important to keep it real and enjoy each moment, you know, take advantage of every opportunity life provides, because who knows what tomorrow may bring.”
